Connors’ Gonzalez, Midland’s
Fagnan win Big Stick Awards

Connors State (Okla.) College shortstop Yariel Gonzalez and Midland (Texas) College outfielder Jeremie Fagnan received the 2013 Rawlings Big Stick Award for their districts.

Both played in this year’s Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.

Rawlings honors the top hitter in each of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division I districts with the highest regular-season batting average with the Rawlings Big Stick Award.

Gonzalez, a freshman, hit .445 to lead all eligible South Central District players. Fagnan, a sophomore, led the Southwest District with a .424 batting average.

Kevin Victoriano of ASA (N.Y.) College posted the highest batting average (.475) among Big Stick winners. He won the Eastern District award.

The NJCAA also announced its 2013 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winners.

Eligible players at each of the nine positions with the best fielding percentage were awarded. None of the nine recipients played in the JUCO World Series this year.
