Cyclers can gear down at Fruita

With cycling season winding down, it’s time to gear down.

The F-Town Gear Down bike festival for road bikers and mountain bikers of all ages will be Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18–19, in Civic Center Park, 325 E. Aspen Ave., in Fruita.

Friday’s events will go from 4–9 p.m. with music by Vitamin B’s and Pineapple Crackers, along with a biking expo, event registration and beer garden.

The wheels will start turning early Saturday morning with the Family Health West Monumental Challenge Road Ride at 7 a.m., leaving from Family Health West.

The Mountain Bike Trail Head Poker Ride, hosted by COPMOBA and Endoholics, will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Rabbit Valley and Lunch Loops trail heads. Riders will then play their hands for prizes back at the civic center.

The expo continues Saturday along with music and the beer garden. Kids can sign up for the Desert Rats Kids Mountain Bike Skills Clinic that will be offered at noon Saturday, and the Kids Strider Race that will start at 1 p.m.

A highlight of the weekend will be the F-Town Film Fest hosted by Fruita Arts and Culture Board and featuring amateur cycling films competing for prizes.

Films will be shown at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday at Cavalcade, 201 E. Aspen Ave., as well as during the evening, at the festival at the Civic Center Pavilion.

The top three films will be shown during an awards ceremony that will get under way at 7 p.m.

Proceeds from the F-Town Gear Down festival will benefit COPMOBA for trail development, Rotary, Rotaract and Family Health West.
