D’Evelyn’s long-range shooting too much for ‘Cats
D’Evelyn made 14 3-pointers to roll to a 76-37 boys basketball victory Thursday over the Fruita Monument High School boys basketball team in the Steamboat Springs Tournament.
Luke Stratman led the way with seven 3-pointers, including four in the first quarter, and 28 points. The senior has signed a letter of intent to play baseball, not basketball, at Washington State.
“We played a decent first quarter, but (Stratman) hit four 3s in the first quarter,” Fruita coach Billy Dreher said. “Those hurt us quite a bit.
“We missed some easy shots and had too many turnovers.”
Matt Harris and Devin Winstanley led the Wildcats (1-3) with seven points each.
Fruita Monument plays Montezuma-Cortez at 4:45 p.m. today in the losers’ bracket.
Hotchkiss 47, Gunnison 22: Jacobe Galley scored 10 points to lead Hotchkiss in a nonleague game.
Windsor Tournament: Roosevelt defeated Central 65-51 in the first round. No Central results were available Thursday night.
