Fat Tire Festival on tap

All bike trails lead to Fruita during the US Bank Fruita Fat Tire Festival pedaling into town Thursday through Sunday, April 24–27.

Hundreds of miles of pristine trails are just a teaser of what to expect during the mountain biking festival. Vendor and expo set up will begin at noon Thursday, April 24, at Fruita’s Civic Center Park, 325 E. Aspen Ave. VIP registration is from 2:30–4:30 p.m. Thursday in the park.

The DT Swiss/Continental Tires VIP party kicks off at 5 p.m. Thursday at The End Zone Sports Pub, 152 S. Mesa. DJ tunes, food and New Belgium Beer will be available — while it lasts, so come early — for registered VIPs. Non-VIPs pay $20 at the door. The party continues until 1 a.m.

The festival will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 25–26. Most bike vendors will close their booths at sunset, however the beer garden will be open and bands play until 9 p.m.

Limited bike demos will be available from vendors from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Friday party in the park goes from 3:30–9 p.m. with live music and food vendors.

KEEN Rippin’ Chix will host several camps for women in the park. A beginner/intermediate skills camp is set for 3–6 p.m. Thursday; a intermediate singletrack camp, 9 a.m. to noon Friday; beginner/intermediate skills camp, 3–6 p.m. Friday; intermediate singletrack camp, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday; and intermediate/advance singletrack camp, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. A pancake breakfast, presented by US Bank and COPMOBA (Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association), will be served from 8–10:30 a.m. Saturday in the park. There is no charge, however, donations are encouraged to support COPMOBA.

The beer garden will be open from noon–9:15 p.m. Saturday with the party in the park, live music and food from 1:30–9 p.m.

The expo closes at 9:30 p.m. Saturday when vendors will take-down their booths. But riders are invited back to enjoy one last ride on Sunday.
