F-Town Gear Down Bike Festival debuts in Fruita

W.T.F. (Welcome to Fruita) and its first F-Town Gear-Down Bike Festival will be Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19–20, in Fruita.

Events on Friday include music, an expo, event registration and a beer garden at the Civic Center Park from 4–9 p.m. The Civic Center stage will feature the band the Vitamin Bs, opening for Pineapple Crackers.

On Saturday, the Family Health West Monumental Challenge Road Ride starts at 7 a.m. leaving from Family Health West.

The Mountain Bike Trail Head Poker ride, hosted by COPMOBA and Endoholics, will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at Rabbit Valley and Lunch Loops trail heads. Riders can play their hand back at the Civic Center for prizes. Register for the poker ride at http://www.active.com or call 309-0253.

The family-oriented festival will feature the Desert Rats Kids Mountain Bike Skills Clinic at noon on Saturday, followed by The Kids Strider Race at 1 p.m. at the Civic Center. The striders will be provided, then auctioned off in the evening.

Amateur cycling films entered in the F-Town Film Festival will be shown at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday at Cavalcade, 201 E. Aspen Ave., in Fruita. Admission is free. The films also will be shown throughout the evening Saturday at the Civic Center Pavilion. The top three films will be shown with sound during the concert intermission. The concert features the Cavalcade House Band opening for The Williams Brothers.

Don’t miss the Over the Edge Fruita Bike Polo Tournament at the Civic Center at 7 p.m. Saturday along with the continuing expo and beer garden.

Proceeds from the festival will benefit COPMOBA for trail development, Rotary, Rotaract and Family Health West.
