Where did you grow up?
I was born in San Francisco on the Navy base. My parents were both from Colorado and when I was three years old, we moved back to Colorado. I graduated from Clear Creek High School in Idaho Springs, Colo., and still love going back to reunite with my classmates from 1976.

Family:
I met my husband in Star Valley, Wyo., south of Jackson Hole and that is where we started our family several years later. I have two sons and a daughter. In 1990, we moved to Fruita and a couple of years later moved to Mack. My oldest son, Travis, works for Merrill Lynch and live in North Carolina with his wife Ellen and son Lane. Nick lives in Fruita with with his wife Katya and son Adyn and is self-employed with a heavy equipment construction company, TNT Robinson Dirt Contractors. My daughter Brandi also lives in Fruita with her husband Reggie and her two daughters Emma and Mili. She looks forward to her new job in a week at the new Fruita Urgent Care Center.

What do you enjoy most about living in the Grand Junction area?
I love our weather and having four seasons. The years I spent in Wyoming we had 10 months of winter and two months of spring. I love the outdoors and all the activities that are either here in the valley or only an hour away. Golf is my favorite activity and we can play most the year around here.

How long have you worked in real estate?
I owned and operated a greenhouse business in Mack for nine years custom growing baskets and planters for high country. My clients included the city of Aspen, town of Telluride, Telluride Mountain Village and dozens of landscapers in the mountain areas. In 2004 I decided it was time to do something different, so I studied and tested to become a Realtor. The first office I worked in was ERA in Grand Junction and received an extended education from Vona Murphy. As the market changed and my children needed help with grandchildren I moved to Chesnick Realty in Fruita. I love our small office and hometown atmosphere and have never met a more caring and giving person than Lori Chesnick. I look forward to going to work every day!

What would you consider your specialty?
I love to work with first-time homebuyers and help them to understand the whole process from start to finish. I have repeat clients that have gradually moved up to their dream home and some young clients who are just getting started. I look forward to helping them achieve their goals.

Describe you most memorable real estate transaction?
My most memorable transaction was selling my own home and shopping for a home to replace it. I struggled with how to price it, how to make it show perfectly and when to put it on the market. In two days I had a contract and struggled with how to handle the low offer and terms of the offer. Would another offer come? What should I counter back at and when should I start packing? It really made me appreciate what my sellers go through emotionally and I have a lot of respect for their concerns through the process.

What is the one tip you have for someone looking to buy a home today?
We have a great market right now with good interest rates. Watch for the home that fits your budget and fulfills your needs and make a reasonable offer if the home is priced right. So many times buyers are disappointed because they did not move forward quickly enough or they offered way below market value and another buyer now has the contract on the home they wanted.

What is the one tip you have for someone looking to sell a home today?
Clean, clean and clean some more. First impressions are so important and sellers need to take the time to organize cupboards and closets, deep clean the kitchen and baths and wash all windows, including the garage, inside and out. Mow, trim, get rid of weeds and clean up after the pets.
It doesn’t take a lot of money to clean and organize your home and will definitely improve your chances of getting an interested buyer.

Why should someone use you as a real estate agent?
I am a full-time real estate agent and enjoy what I do. I listen to my clients’ needs and desires, working hard to help them achieve a positive end result. It is important to me that when the deal is done all parties are happy!
