Idaho Falls’ Alexis Rivera slides in safely with a stolen base as Grand Junction’s Emerson Jimenez is late with the tag in the Rockies’ 8-4 loss.

Cody Stubbs had a home run and a triple and drove in three runs to help lead Idaho Falls past the Grand Junction Rockies 8-4 on Saturday.

The Chukars jumped to a 4-0 lead after three innings, then the Rockies pushed a run across in the fourth on an RBI single by Raimel Tapia.

In the fifth, Stubbs launched a two-run shot over the right-field fence off Manuel Montilla, who was pitching in relief of Joel Payamps, to push the Chukars’ lead to 6-1.

Idaho Falls (5-12) added another two runs in the sixth for a 8-1 lead.

The Rockies actually out-hit Idaho Falls — 13 to 11 — but Grand Junction (11-6) couldn’t get the key hits when it needed them.

Payamps (2-2), who was saddled with the loss, gave up four runs and eight hits, and Montilla gave up three earned runs.

Jacob Newberry took over in the seventh for the Rockies and pitched well, not giving up a hit and striking out three in his two innings.

Yender Caramo picked up the win for the Chukars even though he gave up three runs in the seventh.

The Rockies had a chance for an even bigger inning in the seventh but they couldn’t get the clutch hits. With two men on, Cole Norton scored on Zach Osborne’s ground out. Emerson Jimenez then scored on Jose Briceno’s ground out.

Correlle Prime had the lone RBI hit in the inning, a single to right.

Two Idaho Falls relievers didn’t allow another Grand Junction hitter to reach over the final two innings.

Tapia led the Rockies with three hits with Prime, Jimenez and Ryan McMahon contributing two hits each.
