Good deals at Crested Butte

For a day skiing/snowboarding route, start off with several laps in East River pod to capitalize on the morning sun over there and then work your way over to the Prospect pod for some untracked snow, working to Paradise Bowl mid-day where you could quickly hop into Paradise Warming House for hot food and cold beer.

And then once the legs were feeling primed, get a few laps in on the North Face lift-served extreme terrain and a few on the front side to catch the Silver Queen back to the top of the High Lift as well.

Then look for a hot tub and beer.

The best lunch deal in Mt. Crested Butte is Jefe’s Burritos in Mountaineer Square. It’s a walk-up deli style ordering which makes it quick and easy with lots of fresh salsa and guacamole options, reasonable prices, and a sunny quiet outdoor seating area.

For value-conscious visitors The Grand Lodge can’t be beat. It’s located just a quick walk from the lifts and has an outdoor, heated pool plus several different room configurations depending upon group size.

The best deals in town can be found at Teocalli Tamale (good, fresh Mexican), and the Secret Stash — the Poor Boy special can’t be beat after a day on the hill: includes a slice, a shot of tequila and a beer for $6. Breakfast at Izzy’s is a must for incredible latkes and homemade baked items.

For fun off the mountain, head to the Adventure Park at the base of Mt. Crested Butte. You’ll find ice skating, a tubing hill, bungee trampolines and a climbing wall. Snowshoeing or skiing in the backcountry are also popular options.

The best ticket deals are offered via the CB Mountain Cards — either the CB Card (first day of skiing free and save 25 percent off adult window tickets for the rest of the season) or the X Card (good for any 6 days of skiing during the season, no blackouts). These must be purchased at one of the regional sales events (link to show dates/info: http://www.skicb.com/cbmr/mountain/ski-trade-shows.aspx).

Or, purchase the Getaway Pass for $250 and get one night of lodging and two days of skiing for two people (this product is also only available at the regional sales events).

The 50/50 package is also a great option. In celebration of 50 years of skiing and riding in Crested Butte, CBMR has created a 50/50 package, featuring 50 percent off lift tickets and $50 per person, per night for lodging. The 50/50 package is available from Nov. 23 to Dec. 16, 2010 (check out Dec. 17). The 50 percent discount on lift tickets is only available with lodging package.
