Cycling in the Grand Valley has traditionally been a hot summer event.

Bicycling events have already begun in western Colorado .

The annual Fruita Fat Tire Festival was April 28–May 1, the Rose Hill Rally was May 1, the 18 Hours of Fruita race was two weeks ago.

But there are still some road biking events coming up for skinny tire fans.

Colorado Rocky Mountain Bicycle Tour — Set for Aug. 7–13, this 493-mile, full-supported ride will begin and end in Grand Junction in 2011. There is an option for a shorter ride as well for the tour, which is in its fifth year. Info:

Tour of the Valley — This benefit ride to supports health education and wellness activities offered by Community Hospital and is scheduled for Aug. 28. It will include 30, 50, 75 and 100-mile routes. The century ride goes over Colorado National Monument.

The tour also benefits the Neil Bradford Exercise Science/Sports Management Scholarship fund at Mesa State College, the Mesa State cycling team and the Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association (COPMOBA). Info:

Tour of the Vineyards — The 25-mile bicycle tour goes through the wine country and orchards of the Palisade area. Mark your calendar for Sept. 17. Info:
