Art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. A bold sweep of scarlet across a canvas, the delicate curve of a pottery urn, myriad surprising angles of copper sculpture. A rainbow of woven fibers. A vivid landscape. A pretzel dipped in chocolate.
Or maybe even a brownie.
There’s room in this lovely old world for all of it — especially Saturday at the Art and Chocolate Walk in downtown Palisade.
Visitors throughout the day perused the seven participating businesses, which sold the treats — like Mumzel’s Crumpets, Cups and Cones — or arrayed them on an enticing table amidst the art and other creations.
“We’ve had a lot of people in today,” said Melinda Eastham, owner of Mumzel’s. She said visitors were enticed by the breakfast sandwiches and the kielbasa soup and probably, once they ventured back outside, by the brilliant blue sky and temperate, golden sunshine.
All afternoon, people strolled the sidewalks, making leisurely turns into The Blue Pig Gallery or Lupita’s Bizarre Bazaar Too or Twisted Brick Studios.
The Blue Pig was having its This Little Piggy Miniature Show, in which artists offered lower-priced pieces to entice holiday gift-givers.
“We’ve been swamped today,” said David Rowe, who greeted guests at the gallery and also showed his copper sculpture there. “I think people are liking the miniatures and starting to think about gifts.”
And it didn’t hurt that there were cookies and cupcakes for them to nibble as they perused. It was lovely and it was delicious, a day of mixed media and milk chocolate.
