Blake Shouse allowed only one hit in his five innings Wednesday, but the Grand Junction Rockies’ bullpen allowed six runs as Idaho Falls rallied to defeat Grand Junction 6-5.

Grand Junction’s good start wasn’t enough to offset Idaho Falls’ strong finish as the Chukars rallied to beat the Rockies 6-5 in Pioneer League baseball Wednesday at Idaho Falls.

The Rockies scored four runs in the first inning, highlighted by Miguel Dilone’s two-out, two-run triple. When Cesar Galvez scored on a wild pitch in the fifth, Grand Junction led 5-0, and Rockies starting pitcher Blake Shouse had a no-hitter through four innings.

Shouse walked a batter to open the second inning and hit a batter to open the fourth, but Grand Junction turned double plays each time, allowing Shouse to face the minimum number of batters: 12. Cody Stubbs hit a one-out single in the fifth for Idaho Falls, but Shouse finished the frame with the shutout intact and called it a night.

The Chukars’ bats came to life in Shouse’s absence, scoring three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Idaho Falls (35-30) got back-to-back run-scoring doubles in each inning.

Carlos Estevez pitched a scoreless eighth for the Rockies, then yielded to reliever Carlos Yan, who walked the leadoff hitter, Beau Maggi. Pinch runner Alexis Rivera took second base on a passed ball, and Logan Davis put down a sacrifice bunt, and a throwing error by Yan allowed Rivera to score the game-ending run.

Terry McClure and Galvez each had three hits for the Rockies, who outhit the Chukars 11-7.

The loss dropped Grand Junction to 7-20 in the second half, 28-37 overall.
