Where were you born? How long have you lived in the Mesa County area? What do you like most about it?
I was born here in Grand Junction at St. Mary’s Hospital and was raised on my family’s ranch spending summers in Edwards and winters in the Grand Valley. After graduation from high school, I left the Grand Valley going to college, graduate school and then worked in Denver before having the opportunity to move back to Grand Junction in 1980. Living in western Colorado allows me to pursue an occupation I enjoy and still be only minutes from numerous outdoor activities.

My wife Nancy and I have been married for 32 years and have three children.

How long have you worked in real estate?
In May 2001 I obtained my license and began in real estate. Then, in 2007, I was fortunate to join Linda Gilmore and form the Gilmore/Burford Team and have worked with our personal assistant since that time with the goal of providing the highest level of service for our clients. We are both full-time Realtors and enjoy the help of a very capable personal assistant, Keri Conklin who provides support for our clients and us. Prior to real estate I worked in the financial services industry for more than 20 years and managed a family owned ranch for a few years before that.

What is your specialty and what does that mean for the people you work with?
As a member of the Gilmore/Burford team I strive to provide excellent client service helping both sellers who list their properties and the buyers looking for their perfect home achieve their goals. We deal with primarily residential properties, including selling existing homes, as well as new construction and building lots, and also small acreage or farm or ranch properties. Listening to clients wants, needs and desires and acting upon that information with a plan to make that happen is our goal.

What is one tip you have for someone looking to buy a home?
When making a decision to purchase a home, the first step is to do your research and talk to friends, family and acquaintances to find the right Realtor who is active in the market and knowledgeable. A full-time agent who listens, spends the time and will work for you to make this major decision successful. Next, find a good lender who will work with you both to get the most favorable financing available.

What is one tip you have for someone looking to sell a home?
In this very challenging housing market, it’s imperative that buyers find an experienced Realtor who understands marketing properties effectively, is capable of assisting you in arriving at a realistic price for your home, will obtain the maximum exposure and can effectively negotiate to obtain the best possible sales price and accomplish a successful closing.

Why should someone choose you as their real estate agent?
As a full-time Realtor, I have the knowledge, experience and time to make the home buying or selling process work for them. This is an exciting time in real estate with a constantly changing market and it takes a dedicated person to take the transaction through all the steps necessary to accomplish their goal, whether it be buying or selling.

What do you most enjoy doing when you’re not working?
When possible, I like to get out and hike, climb 14’ers around Colorado, spend time at the family cabin near Eagle and travel. I also enjoy collecting Western art.

Any final thoughts?
In this challenging time for both buyers and sellers, it’s important to have a strong team working for you, providing you with the facts and educating and advising as needed.
