Mesa’s Sigl selected to All-Region first team

Kelsey Sigl of Colorado Mesa University is one of four players in this weekend’s South Central Regional women’s basketball tournament selected to the Daktronics South Central All-Region first team. Nine of the 10 players on the first and second teams will be on display when the tournament tips off at noon today at Brownson Arena.

Kiara Wright of Tarleton State is the South Central Region player of the year, with Sigl, Teisha King of Texas-Permian Basin, Devin Griffin of West Texas A&M and Andrea Carter of Midwestern State on the first team.

Sigl, a 6-foot senior from Bismarck, N.D., is the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player of the year, averaging 18.5 points and seven rebounds per game for the No. 4 Mavericks. Sigl, who has scored 1,399 points the past three seasons at CMU, is shooting 56.2 percent from the field and 44.8 percent from the 3-point line.

Katrina Selsor, the Mavericks’ 6-1 senior forward, made the second team. Selsor, the MVP of last week’s RMAC Shootout, averages 14.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. She enters the weekend with 983 points and 584 rebounds since transferring from CSU-Pueblo after her freshman year.

Wright, a 6-1 junior center, is the Lone Star Conference player of the year, averaging 18.1 points and 14.1 rebounds per game, and she shoots 60.6 percent from the field.

Also on the women’s second team are Kirsti Degelia of Midwestern State, Jackie Woods of St. Mary’s, Mackenzie Lankford of Abilene Christian and Peyton Adamson of Tarleton State.

Jonathan Morse of Metro State and Alex Herrera of Fort Lewis made the men’s first team, with Trevor Wages of Colorado School of Mines, Brandon Jefferson of Metro State and Kaimyn Pruitt of Adams State on the second team. Kevin Kotzur of St. Mary’s was selected the men’s regional player of the year.

First-team all-region players are eligible for All-America honors. The teams are selected by members of the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.
