Where did you grow up?
I grew up in western New York State — the small town of Livonia, 30 miles south of Rochester and about 60 miles east of Buffalo.
I’ve been married to my beautiful and ambitious wife, Toni Heiden, for 16 years. I didn’t raise children, but have two stepsons, Chad and Trent, and nine grandchildren. I’m the oldest of six kids, so I’m used to large families. All my siblings, nephews and nieces are in western New York, and Toni and I encourage them to visit so they can experience the sunshine, low humidity and the great outdoors.
What do you enjoy most about living in the Grand Junction area?
The sunshine and moderate winters are a joy after living in the east for 30 years. Outdoor recreation is a big draw — from skiing to biking to hiking to climbing 14ers. As small business owners, Toni and I enjoy the small-town atmosphere, including participation in civic organizations such as Kiwanis Club and downtown activities such as the Parade of Lights and the Farmers’ Market.
How long have you worked in real estate?
I’ve worked as a Realtor for 18 months and have helped Toni with administrative duties for 8 years.
What would you consider your specialty?
Helping people who are looking for moderately priced homes. I’ve helped people search in the $100,000-$200,000 price range in recent months, with some good results.
Do you have any accreditations or certifications?
I’m a Realtor, a member of the National Association of Realtors, the Grand Junction Area Realtor Association and Independent Brokers.
What is the most challenging/ gratifying aspect of what you do?
Helping buyers find their first home, working through the process of selecting a home and financing the purchase. I also enjoy helping people find what they believe will be their last home.
Describe your most memorable real estate transaction.
A family called our office off a yard sign, and asked me to show them some houses. It turns out the husband was from Grand Junction and was trying to return. We had so much fun swapping stories and found a unique older home that was a perfect fit for the family. While he knew many agents in town, he ended up working with our office. Sometimes the most enjoyable transactions happen because they were apparently meant to be.
What is one tip you have for someone looking to buy a home today?
Watch your expenses and maintain good credit. This will allow you to quickly pursue a home when you find the right one.
