New gallery opening on Main

A new gallery has opened in downtown Grand Junction, and it will celebrate its opening with drawings, free classes and more during a three-day grand opening timed in conjunction with the Art and Music Festival.

Colorado Canyons Gallery & Gifts, the collaboration of artists Doug Loring, Fay Timmerman and Steve Traudt, is open at 623 Main St. and features the work of nearly three dozen artists in a variety of mediums.

The grand opening party will start at 4 p.m. Friday, May 9, with a blessing ceremony from flutist and Paiute leader Gary “Bear” Tom. A meet-and-greet with displaying artists will be from 5:30–8 p.m.

Free, mini classes from instructors Christella Kay and Traudt will be at 11 a.m., 
1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 9–10. No pre-registration required.

Gallery hours during the Art and Music Festival will be 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 10, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 11.

People can register for prize drawings during the extended grand opening weekend.

The gallery’s normal business hours will be 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
