Potomac State holds off Jefferson in JUCO opener

Potomac State College of West Virginia escaped the seventh and added two runs in the eighth inning to defeat Jefferson (Mo.) College 8-5 in Game 1 of the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.

Andy Smithmyer picked up the win for the Catamounts (36-10). He allowed three runs on five hits, six walks and struck out six.

Jefferson (43-21) had opportunities to score, but left 12 runners on base.
