Grant money available for qualified housing agencies
The Grand Junction Area Realtor Association is accepting grant applications from qualified organizations that provide housing services to moderate to low-income households in Mesa County. The deadline to submit application is March 1, 2014.
“GJARA has $1684.88 available for local housing projects,” said Tina Harbin, a REALTOR® volunteer for the Colorado Association of REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation (CARHOF). “To date, the foundation has granted more than $7.4 million statewide to over 100 nonprofit and public agencies.”
Using revenue generated by CARHOF, GJARA invests in local nonprofit organizations that provide critical housing services to meet the needs of the community. CARHOF, a 501(c)(3) foundation created by the Colorado Association of REALTORS®, collects interest from earnest money held in home purchases. By law, escrow trust accounts cannot earn interest. With CARHOF, however, the interest can be collected and made available as grants supporting crisis shelters, affordable housing developments, down payment assistance programs and other housing-related projects. To be eligible for funds, organizations must be based in Colorado, have a housing-related mission, and be a nonprofit agency with a 501(c)(3) status or a public agency.
For more information, call Tina Harbin, 970-234-3808.
