RSSReivers’ Steele selected Preston Walker MVP
Iowa Western’s Keaton Steele, 29, tags out San Jacinto’s Galli Cribbs on Friday night during the Reivers’ title game win over the Gators. Steele was selected as the Preston Walker Most Valuable Player.
Four Iowa Western Community College players led the 2012 Alpine Bank Junior College World Series all-tournament team.
Preston Walker MVP Keaton Steele was joined by outfielder Iseha Conklin, catcher Levi Meyer and pitcher Tanner Krietemeier.
San Jacinto (Texas) College-North pitcher Daniel Stumpf made the all-tournament team and was chosen the Robert Purkey Jr. Outstanding Pitcher. The sophomore left-hander pitched two complete-game victories and had 14 strikeouts in 18 innings.
Western Nevada pitcher Dylan Baker, Perfect Game USA’s top junior-college draft prospect, made the all-tournament team along with Stumpf and Krietemeier on the mound.
The Rawlings Big Stick Award went to Gordon (Ga.) College outfielder Drew Adams, who hit .500 for the tournament, going 10 for 20 with three doubles. Danny Murphy of Jefferson (Mo.) College also hit .500, but Adams had four more at-bats and two more hits.
San Jacinto catcher Kyle Bacak made the all-tournament team and was selected the Jay Tolman Outstanding Defensive Player.
Gordon College and its coach, Travis McClanahan, received the Homa Thomas Sportsmanship Award.
The all-tournament team infielders were Jefferson first baseman Fred Ford, who led all players with three home runs and 10 RBI, Jefferson shortstop Brett Wiley, Gordon third baseman Bobby Woodall and Neosho County (Kan.) Community College shortstop David Bote.
Gordon’s Aaron Mizell, San Jacinto’s Justin Byrd and Iowa Western’s Iseha Conklin made the all-tournament team in the outfield.
San Jacinto’s Reggie Wilson was selected to the team by the media but was removed by the tournament committee after he bumped home plate umpire Pancho Flores as the umpires were leaving the field after the game.
The all-tournament designated hitter was Jody Stone of Gordon
