Six current or former Grand Junction Rockies among Colorado Rockies’ top 20 prospects
Six current or former Grand Junction Rockies are listed in the revised top 20 prospects in the Colorado Rockies organization, including the top three.
The list is compiled by the staff at MLB.com.
Pitcher Jon Gray, the club’s first-round pick this year, is ranked No. 1, with David Dahl No. 2.
Gray has been on a strict pitch count and didn’t pitch for the first month of the season after being a workhorse at Oklahoma this past spring. He makes his fourth start tonight at Suplizio Field.
Dahl, a center fielder and last year’s first-rounder, was assigned to Class A Asheville, but has been on the disabled list most of the season with a torn hamstring and is rehabbing in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Eddie Butler, who was the Rockies’ second pick last year, is listed at No. 3. Butler is pitching at Class A Modesto and played in Major League Baseball’s Futures All-Star game earlier this month.
Jayson Aquino, who moved from short-season Class A to Class A Asheville earlier this month, is rated as the No. 14 organizational prospect, with Julian Yan, who played right field in Grand Junction last summer and is currently in short-season A ball at Tri-City, is No. 20.
Grand Junction third baseman Ryan McMahon, drafted in the second round this year, is the club’s No. 19 prospect. McMahon has been impressive defensively at third and is hitting .330 with 10 doubles and 16 RBI.

MLB.com also ranked the top 100 overall prospects, with Gray coming in at No. 37, Dahl at No. 60 and Butler at No. 97.
