Snow delays opening of Kebler Pass by 2 weeks
With new snow over the weekend delaying some much-needed repair work, Kebler Pass isn’t expected to be opened to the public for at least two more weeks.
That’s the latest word from Marlene Crosby, director of the Gunnison County Public Works Department, who said Gunnison County road crews reported 20 inches of snow Sunday on Kebler.
Kebler Pass connects Crested Butte with Colorado Highway 133 at Paonia Dam.
Crosby said the new snow will extend the time needed to allow the mostly unpaved road to dry enough for travel.
Crosby said the county’s public works department has barricaded both ends of the pass with concrete barriers.
“If you wanted to drive through you probably could get through, but we have one big culvert we need to get worked on,” Crosby told the Crested Butte News earlier this week.
