RMAC expects little from Mesa

Colorado Mesa University’s cross country teams aren’t expected to catch the perennial powers.

The Mavericks’ men’s and women’s teams are expected to finish about where they did last year in the RMAC, when each finished 10th. The men’s team is picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll released Wednesday. The women’s team is picked to finish 10th.

Adams State is the favorite to win the men’s and women’s titles again. The defending national champion and
No. 1 nationally ranked men received 12 of the 13 first-place votes. The women, ranked No. 2 in the nation, received 12 of the 14 first-place votes.

The Grizzlies’ Tabor Stevens and Kelly Lamb are the men’s and women’s preseason runners of the year.

The Colorado School of Mines men’s team received one first-place vote and is picked second. Coaches can’t vote for their own team.

The Western State Colorado men’s team, ranked second in the nation, is picked third. The Western State women received two first-place votes and are picked to finish second. They are ranked third in the nation.

Five of the RMAC men’s teams are ranked nationally. Four women’s teams are ranked nationally.
