Collins wins middle-school state title

Dawson Collins won the Colorado Middle School 70-pound state wrestling title to lead the Colorado Outlaws Club.

Collins was one of four Outlaw wrestlers to place at the state tournament Saturday at the National Western Stock Complex in Denver. He received the lower weights outstanding wrestler award for his accomplishment.

Dre Martinez placed second at 85 pounds, Luke Pleasant was fourth at 70 pounds, and Jagger Wade was sixth at 75 pounds.

■ Purebred Wrestling, a Grand Valley-based club, qualified 11 wrestlers to the middle-school state meet and won its regional March 22 at Colorado Mesa University.

Winning regional titles and remaining undefeated were Purebred wrestlers Jimmy Duerock (100 pounds), Austin Bernal (125), J.T. Skalecki (130), Terrance Williams (152) and Talon Chatfield (heavyweight). Hunter Tobiasson (115) placed second; Matthew Carbajal (80), Kasey Jordan (165) and Levi Womack (198) placed third; and Riley Cook (110) and Ben Robuck (125) placed fourth for Purebred.

Skiing

Powderhorn adds weekend to ski season

 

Powderhorn Mountain Resort was supposed to close for the season today, but it will be open for an extra weekend, the resort announced Saturday.

The Take-Four Quad lift will run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and lift tickets will cost $20. Season passes also will be honored. The Ski & Ride Center, Magic Carpet and tubing hill will be closed.

The Sunset Bar & Grille, rental department and retail department will open at 9 a.m. both days. All retail products will be 40 percent off. Live music will be provided on the Sunset Deck both days, with Tony Rosario performing Saturday and the Gerry Goodman Band performing Sunday.

The Pond Skimming Competition, originally planned for today, has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. Registrations of 60 competitors will be taken by calling 970-268-5700, ext. 2040.
