Mavs’ Colton Burgon is RMAC defensive player of the week

Colton Burgon averaged 18.5 points and recorded a double-double last weekend to lead the Colorado Mesa University men’s basketball team to two victories in the Clarion Inn Thanksgiving Classic.

His defense, though, helped the Mavericks (3-1) rally from a 14-point deficit against Dixie State in the Mavs’ 80-61 win, and earned him the RMAC defensive player of the week honor on Monday.

The 6-foot-8 senior forward from Sandy, Utah, averaged 7.5 rebounds a game last weekend, and on Saturday had 22 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and blocked four shots. He is averaging 7.3 rebounds and 15.5 points a game as the Mavericks enter conference play this weekend at Chadron State (Neb.) College and Black Hills State (S.D.) University.
