Toppling a drug ring
The dozens of arrests made last week in what is believed to be one of the largest drug rings ever to operate in western Colorado prompt a number of observations.
First, almost no community, no matter how small and isolated, is immune from the scourge of hard drugs such as methamphetamine and cocaine. Even a tiny town like Meeker can serve as the operational headquarters for a drug ring.
It’s also clear that law enforcement in this part of Colorado is continuing to work together to stem the drug trade. And authorities can cooperatively muster a lot of resources in a hurry when necessary to corral drug dealers, as they did last week after a traffic stop made it imperative that they move quickly.
Kudos to all of the law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who engineered these arrests and what we hope will be just as many convictions.
