Where did you grow up?
Kerry and Cathy were both born and raised in Montrose Colorado. Both are fifth-generation Montrosians.
How did you get started in the industry?
Kerry worked for Montgomery Wards right out of High School. He has been in the appliance industry for over 40 years. Tri-River Appliance, Inc. has a thirty-four year history of operation in the Montrose and surrounding areas. The company was established in 1980 by the Frasier and Schaal families as a Montrose based service and repair business serving an area which includes Gunnison, Lake City, Telluride, Nucla, Delta, Crested Butte and the North Fork Valley through ten employees. In 1988, The company purchased Lehigh’s General Appliance of Montrose and transitioned from a service company to focus on sales of Hotpoint, Jenn-Air, Zenith and Sony appliances and electronics. Today, the company carries over thirty brands of appliances in its recently remodeled 4,000 square foot showroom and 11,000 square foot warehouse. In addition to its market presence in the Montrose and surrounding areas, in 2003, the company extended operations into the Grand Junction area. From there it conducts sales activities into the Aspen, Vail and other markets to the east. The company currently employs a staff of 14 sales, delivery and service people guided by two location managers. Tri-River Appliance belongs to the Nationwide West Group, the largest buying group in the country, allowing us to purchase products at the most competitive prices.
How has the industry changed since you got started?
Products are more sophisticated and electronically computer controlled. The life expectancy is less and the cost has increased. However, they are more energy efficient. Even though the appliance industry has changed, our business has not. We offer excellent sales, service and delivery. All of our staff has been professionally trained by each individual manufacturer. Many of our employees have been with us for over 10 years. We strive to keep them close.
Is there a particular aspect of your business that you consider your specialty?
Kerry considers his entire business a specialty! We sell mid to high end appliances. We sell our appliances at a very competitive price to our customers.
What’s the most unusual feature you’ve put in a home?
We installed a spun copper vent hood brought all the way in from Sweden.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
We like to snowmobile, go 4 wheeling and spending time with our family! We are all residents of the Montrose area.
We have three daughters; Karia Kille, who does the payroll for Tri- River and her husband Brian who owns Snipp’s Heat and Air. Kendra Key works in the mortgage department for Montrose Bank and Kaelyn Frasier works for Tri-River Appliance in sales, accounts receivable, payables etc. She does a little of everything. We have four granddaughters, one grandson and one great-grandson.
What do you enjoy about living in western Colorado?
We love the outdoors and it’s beautiful here! It has been a safe enjoyable place to raise our children.
