Turns get twisted
on 6&50

The good news is, the traffic light at Rimrock Avenue on west- and eastbound Interstate 70 Business Loop will stay green all week starting Sunday night.

The temporarily inconvenient news is east- and westbound drivers won’t be able to make left turns into Sam’s Club or the Rimrock Marketplace.

As part of the final phase of the I-70B reconstruction project, Rimrock Avenue through traffic across the highway will be blocked beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday, a closure that will remain in place tentatively through 8 a.m. Oct. 12.

“But we plan on having it open earlier,” said Tom Newland, public information manager for the project.

Also, left turns from east- and westbound I-70B onto Rimrock Avenue will be blocked for the week, but “any right turn will work,” Newland said. “Right into and right out of the intersection will be unrestricted.”

The work being done next week will include paving the left turn lanes onto Rimrock Avenue.

Newland said detours for those needing to enter Rimrock Marketplace or Sam’s Club and the businesses surrounding it will be adequately marked. For example, those driving west on I-70B can turn left before the Rimrock Avenue intersection onto American Way, then turn right onto 25 ½ Road, which becomes Rimrock Avenue.

Drivers also can turn left after the Rimrock intersection onto 24 ¾ Road, following it to a left onto West Independent Avenue, which leads to Rimrock Marketplace.

Through traffic on I-70B will be unrestricted, Newland said, “and in fact the light there at Rimrock will stay green the whole time.”
