Rifle’s Ryan Moeller has drawn interest from several colleges, including CSU and Colorado Mesa and Tuesday was visited by coaches from UNLV.

Add the University of Nevada-Las Vegas to the list of colleges interested in Rifle High School running back and safety Ryan Moeller.

Rifle head football coach Damon Wells said assistant coaches from the Division I program visited Rifle High School on Tuesday to speak with Moeller, a senior who rushed for 3,002 yards, sixth all-time on Colorado’s all-classifications rushing list.

Colorado Mesa University is the only college that has offered Moeller a scholarship, Wells said.

Also having expressed interest in the 6-foot, 190-pound Moeller are Colorado State University, the University of Tulsa and the University of Wyoming.

Still, Wells said Moeller would prefer to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, and the school’s hiring of Mike Mac-Intyre from San Jose State as its new head coach doesn’t seem to have changed Moeller’s interest.

“(Moeller) would love to have a discussion with anyone from CU,” Wells said, “and they’ve ignored him.”

On the other hand, football staff members from Colorado State University have visited twice, Wells said, including Rams head coach Jim McElwain on Nov. 27.

“That speaks volumes about (CSU),” Wells said.

Wells said coaches have not pegged Moeller, who ran an 11.2-second 100-meter dash in last spring’s track season, into one position. And Wells said Moeller is willing to play any position that would make him valuable to a program.

“Depending on you and your program and what you might need, that affects how you might project him,” Wells said. “He’s an athlete who’s able to do different things.”
