What’s new at JUCO this year
New “Big Stick”: With Marucci the new official bat sponsor of the NJCAA, the Rawlings Big Stick Award is no more. Marucci will sponsor the “Elite Hitter Award,” which will go to the tournament’s leading hitter.
New baseballs: Spalding is now the official baseball of the NJCAA, replacing Rawlings. Spalding is donating the souvenir baseballs that fans will receive in exchange for balls hit into the stands.
Mr. JUCO’s Fun House: In cooperation with the Grand Junction Rockies, the fun house, free to enter, will be in place in the north end zone of the football stadium the first three days of the tournament. A bump-and-jump, a Whiffle ball T-ball station and a speed of pitch area will be set up, as well as a face-painting area. Interns with the GJ Rockies will run the Fun House.
New hosts: The Sertoma Club bowed out of hosting a team, but the Fruita Rotary Club stepped in to host the Gulf District team.
Memorial Day: A giant American flag, donated by the Colorado Rockies, will be carried onto the outfield Monday night for pregame ceremonies in honor of the holiday.
