10 — CMU cycling team wins a national title

Colorado Mesa University won the 2012-13 Division II collegiate cycling national title in May, and Alexis Skarda won her third straight Division II national title in women’s cross-country mountain biking in October.

The Mavericks’ overall title includes points accumulated from five disciplines — mountain, track, cyclocross, BMX and road — for men and women.

It is the second overall national title for CMU during rider and coach Patric Rostel’s time with the team. The Mavericks also won the Division II championship in 2010.

Mesa is in contention to defend its overall national title in 2014 after winning the track national championship in September and placing third in the mountain bike nationals in October.
