4-run 4th lifts Chukars past GJ Rox
Daniel Rockett launched a two-run home run in the fourth inning, sparking a four-run rally that helped Idaho Falls to an 8-4 win over the visiting Grand Junction Rockies on Sunday.
Rockett’s blast broke a 3-3 tie and preceded a double by Dominique Taylor and RBI single by Nick Cuckovich. The inning’s fourth run came on a throwing error by third baseman Ryan McMahon.
Rockett and Taylor were each 3 for 4 on the day. Rockett finished with three RBI.
Grand Junction starting pitcher Helmis Rodriguez lasted only 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs — three earned — on five hits and one walk. He struck out four and took the loss, falling to 2-2 on a day the Rockies’ defense committed five errors.
Raimel Tapia led off the game for the Rockies with a home run that cleared the right-field wall. McMahon drove in a pair of runs with a single in the third inning and Jairo Rosario doubled home a run in the ninth for Grand Junction (11-7).
Idaho Falls starter Luke Farrell (1-1) picked up the win on the mound, limiting the Rockies to three runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out six in five innings of work.
After dropping the first two in the four-game series on Thursday and Friday, the Chukars (6-12) salvaged a split by winning the final two.
