5-goal outburst lifts Aspen past GJ
Aspen broke a 6-6 tie by scoring five straight goals in the second half Wednesday for an 11-7 victory over the Grand Junction girls lacrosse team, the Tigers’ second loss of the season.
The Tigers’ only other loss came to Aspen, 11-9 last month.
Ashley Preuss scored two quick goals for the Tigers (9-2, 9-2 Mountain League) for a 2-0 lead, but the Skiers (9-3, 9-2) battled back, scoring four in a row.
Morgan Emmons scored three goals for the Tigers, who wrap up the season with two games in Durango this weekend.
Palisade clinched its third straight Class 4A Western Slope League championship Tuesday with a 10-0, five-inning win at Delta.
The Bulldogs (15-2, 10-0 WSL) got a two-hit performance from pitcher Kameron Pfaff and a three-RBI game from Lane Orman, who tripled.
A four-run second inning was more than enough for Pfaff (5-1), who struck out six and walked only one batter, but Palisade added three in the third and two more in the fourth. One run in the fifth ended the game early on the 10-run rule.
Palisade wraps up the regular season with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at Suplizio Field against Steamboat Springs.
