The Gene Taylor’s baseball team never made it onto the field Wednesday in the American Legion A state tournament in Boulder. Rain postponed the team’s scheduled game with Boulder until 10 a.m. today, pending the outcome of the Greeley-Centaurus game, which will start at 8 a.m.
Seth Richey, 35, of Grand Junction, won the singles and doubles open wheelchair divisions at the 86th annual National Public Parks Tennis Championships Friday through Sunday at Gates Tennis Center in Denver.
Richey, who was paralyzed in a car accident in high school (he attended Fruita Monument High School), won the past four Rocky Mountain Wheelchair Tournament singles divisions. This year, the wheelchair division joined the NPPTC.
In doubles, Richey teamed up with Grand Junction’s Kris Burwell, 55, of Grand Junction
Richey defeated Burwell, 6-3, 6-1 in the singles final.
Also, Ryan Orr of Grand Junction took second place in the ‘C’ singles wheelchair division.
