Adams State kicks field goal to defeat Mavericks
Adams State kicked a 39-yard field goal with five seconds left to defeat Colorado Mesa 19-17 in the season finale at Stocker Stadium.
The Grizzlies scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to rally for the victory.
It was the Mavericks’ fourth consecutive loss to end the season. Mesa finishes the season 5-6 (4-5 RMAC).
Mesa had two turnovers and eight penalties for 53 yards in the loss. The Mavericks intercepted their 23rd pass of the season, tying a single-season school record.
Jason Haferman completed 12 of 25 passes for 140 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Jake Cimolino rushed for 150 yards to surpass the 1,000-yard mark for the season and Jake Edmiston had 22 tackles to lead the Mavericks.
