Alan Bateman takes over as Central girls golf coach
After spending four years as an assistant coach for the Central High School girls golf team, Alan Bateman was promoted to head coach Monday.
Bateman replaces Casey Doss, who is now the football coach at University High School in Greeley.
Central Athletic Director Randy Powell said Bateman was an easy choice because he continues the high quality coaching of the girls golf program. The Warriors sent four golfers to the Class 5A state tournament last season.
“He’s a done a great job with us as an assistant,” Powell said. “It was a great opportunity for both of us and it was the right fit to continue the success of the program.”
Bateman has 47 years of experience playing golf, and the 57-year-old has a history of coaching at Central.
Bateman was an assistant coach with former Central football coach Vern McGee for 17 years. Bateman is also a teacher at Central.
“It’s a great opportunity and being a coach there I have a pretty good report with those girls and we’re looking forward to getting to work,” Bateman said. “When you’ve been coaching as long as I have, when you get older you just start taking the sports where you have to run less.”
