Ancient art of archery free for the viewing

It’s not Sherwood Forest, but it comes as close as possible for western Colorado.

The 2011 Big Sky Archery Open begins Friday night at the DoubleTree Hotel and you’re invited.

The three-day tournament features Olympics-type targets and draws some of the top archers competing head-to-head (bow-to-bow?).

It’s free for the viewing and you might get hooked on this contemplative sport.

Who knows, you might even discover your inner Robin Hood.

WHAT: 2011 Big Sky Archery Open tournament.

WHERE: The DoubleTree Hotel, Grand Junction.

WHEN: Starts 5:30 p.m. Friday with individual competition Saturday and Sunday mornings.

HOW: The event is free. Park on the east side of the hotel. More information at http://www.bigskyarcheryopen.com.
