Bill Fanning’s memorial Mass set for Friday
A memorial Mass for former Grand Junction High School baseball coach Bill Fanning will take place at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Fanning, 91, died Friday of complications from pneumonia. He taught history at Grand Junction and coached the Tigers for 35 years, winning three state championships. He had a 467-172 record, including a 43-game winning streak that spanned the 1961 and 1962 seasons, both culminating with a state championship.
Visitation is from 3-6 p.m. Thursday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, with a rosary at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Fanning is survived by his son, William T. Fanning Jr., his daughter, Diana Najera, and his sister, Marjorie Magner, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His wife, Val, preceded him in death.
The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado and Catholic Outreach.
