The Bureau of Land Management wants public feedback as it considers renewing dozens of permits for outfitting and other recreational activities within lands managed by its Grand Junction Field Office.

The office is accepting comments on 32 special recreation permit renewal applications. The permits are required for commercial, competitive and organized-group events on BLM lands.

“We are seeking comments from the public on such issues as compliance history, potential conflicts with other users, and health and safety,” Carrie Surber, the administrator of the permits, said in a news release. “Comments can also help us determine whether these (permits) support BLM objectives in recreation management and resource protection.”

The agency says it seeks to support local economies and provide quality recreation experiences for the public, while managing commercial recreation to protect natural resources that make such recreation desirable. It works to charge a “fair value” on behalf of the public for such activities.

The renewal applications are available for review at the Grand Junction BLM office, 2815 H Road.

To provide comment on the applications, or find out if a particular activity on public lands requires such a permit, contact Surber at 2815 H Road, Grand Junction, CO 81506, or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Comments need to be received by March 20.
