Boy may face more serious charge in Montrose attack

A 14-year-old boy charged with acting with another boy to slash the throat of a Montrose High School student on Nov. 11 may face a more serious charge.

Prosecutors with the Montrose County District Attorney’s Office filed a petition Wednesday in court to increase the boy’s charge to conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, a higher-level felony.

Another 14-year-old boy, Michael Yates, has been charged as an adult with first-degree attempted murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault on student Mallory Haulman on school grounds.
