Bridges’ big game leads Fruita Monument past Montezuma-Cortez

Fruita Monument jumped to an early lead Saturday and cruised to a 66-30 victory over Montezuma-Cortez at Fruita Monument High School.

Drew Bridges led the Wildcats (9-6, 3-0 SWL) with 18 points. James Lewis had 12 and Spencer Fair added 10 off the bench.

Grand Junction 46: Durango 37: The Tigers survived the Demons’ rally for a Southwestern League victory.

Nate Yanez scored 18 points to lead Grand Junction (11-6, 2-1 SWL). Tyler Winder added 13.

Girls Basketball

Joei Ritter hit a crucial field goal in the final minute to lift Grand Junction to a 44-37 Southwestern League victory over Durango at Grand Junction High School.

Fawn Brady led the Tigers (10-6, 3-0 SWL) with 12 points.

Fruita Monument 63: Montezuma-Cortez 52: The Wildcats went on a 13-9 run in the third quarter to pull away for the league win.

Lauren Labonde led Fruita (9-7, 2-1 SWL) with 16 points. Taylor Johnson had 12.

Delta 63, Steamboat Springs 54: The Panthers benefitted from a 25-5 run in the second quarter.

Skylyn Webb scored 24 points and Katie Kahrs added 13 for Delta (12-4, 5-1 WSL).

Cedaredge 59, Roaring Fork 43: Amber Farr led the Bruins to victory with 18 points.

Coal Ridge 48, Hotchkiss 41: The Titans took an early lead and hit 11 of 18 fourth-quarter free throws for the victory.

Chelsea Hotchkiss led the Bulldogs with 12 points.


Seven wrestlers placed to lead Grand Junction to first place in the Northglenn Invitational.

Jessie Hoffschneider won the 145-pound title. Dylan Reed (215), Dylon Thompson (119) and Kameron Medina (135) took second.

Fairview Duals: Palisade defeated 5A schools Highlands Ranch, Columbine, Mountain View, Fairview and 4A Longmont to take first place.

Daniel Salazar (125 pounds), Mason Day (135) and Dylan Gardner (215) were 5-0. Kyuana Martinez (103), Dalton Hannigan (112), Justin Ray (119) and Eddie Vial (160) were 4-1.

Top of the Rockies: Anthony Feller (130), Willy Holdren (145) and Kyle Jamison (285) took fifth place to lead the Warriors to 13th. Cameron Deverick (119) was sixth.

Canon City Invitational: Eight wrestlers placed to lead Montrose to the team title.

Drew Schumann took first place at 130 pounds and was chosen the lower weights outstanding wrestler. Geordon Hudson, Marcus Velasquez and Bryce Gaber took first.

Girls Swimming & Diving

Montrose took first place in six individual events and all three relay events Saturday to win the Grand Junction Invitational at El Pomar Natatorium.

Emily Stucky won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 freestyle. Rashyll Leonard took first in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Grand Junction placed fourth.

Farmington Invitational: The Palisade/Central Wardogs had more than two dozen personal best swims to place fourth as a team with 219 points.

Teddy Hayes and Karolina Latek each had several top five finishes to lead the Wardogs.
