• Denver aims to woo international match
DENVER — An annual rugby clash between Australia and New Zealand could be making its first U.S. appearance in Denver.
Denver officials say they’re in talks to play host for the 2009 Bledisloe Cup, a rugby game between Australia and New Zealand. The Metro Denver Sports Commission says it wants to persuade cup officials to hold next year’s match at Invesco Field at Mile-High Stadium.
It would be the first time the match would be played in the United States. This year the All Blacks of New Zealand and the Wallabies of Australia met for the first time on neutral soil outside the World Cup, staging a match earlier this month in Hong Kong. New Zealand won 19-14.
