College Cross Country

• Mesa picked third in RMAC

The Mesa State College women’s cross country team is picked third in the RMAC preseason poll, released Wednesday.

The Mavericks, ranked 21st in the nation, placed third in the RMAC last year led by All-American runner Alexis Skarda, the first All-American in Mesa’s Division II history.

The sophomore from Boulder is a preseason All-RMAC pick this season. Mesa opens the season Sept. 5 at the Joe Vigil Invitational in Alamosa.

Adams State, the defending national champion, is picked by 12 of the 13 coaches to win the RMAC title. Western State is picked second.
