Mesa State (2-2, 2-0 RMAC) at Fort Lewis (1-3, 0-2 RMAC),

Saturday, 1 p.m., Ray Dennison Memorial Field, Durango, Radio: 1230-AM (KEXO), pre-game at 12:30 p.m.

Series: Mesa leads 23-10-1. The Mavericks won 35-13 last year at Stocker Stadium.

Mesa State

Coach: Joe Ramunno, 12th year, 70-59

Last year: 6-5 (6-3 RMAC)

Last week: Defeated Western New Mexico 43-37 at Stocker Stadium.

Noteworthy: The Mavericks’ total offense yards have increased each week with a season-best 490 last week. Mesa will need to get off to a better start this week against the rival Skyhawks, Ramunno said. Mesa’s offensive line averages 55 pounds more than Fort Lewis’ defensive line. Mesa running back Will Halboth, who missed last week with an infection, is back.

Fort Lewis

Coach: Ed Rifilato, 6th year, 21-35

Last year: 2-9 (1-8 RMAC)

Last week: Lost 51-10 to Colorado School of Mines in Golden.

Noteworthy: The Skyhawks are last in the RMAC in scoring offense (10.8), total offense (222.5) and total defense (450.8). Fort Lewis is smaller up front than Mesa on the offensive and defensive line, but utilizes more speed. The Skyhawks have lost seven consecutive RMAC games dating to last season.
