Mesa women win CSU-Pueblo invite
The Mesa State College women’s golf team won its second tournament, led by junior Kristina Casillas and sophomore Jennifer Hilts.
Casillas and Hilts each shot a tournament-low 79 on Tuesday in the CSU-Pueblo Invitational at Walking Stick Golf Course to finish second and third, respectively, as the Mavericks trimmed 16 shots off its first-round score to finish the two-round tournament with 667.
Montana State-Billings took second with a 681 and Western New Mexico was third at 687.
Adams State’s Kendall Martin took medalist honors with a two-round score of 163. Casillas finished at 164 and Hilts 165.
Mesa State’s Jessica Berve cut seven strokes off her first-day score and finished eighth with 169. Teammate Afton Balling tied for ninth at 170.
Mavs place ninth at Cougar Canyon
The Mesa State men’s golf team placed ninth in its first tournament in school history.
The Mavericks shot 323 in the rain-shortened, one round RMAC Fall Championship at Cougar Canyon Golf Links in Trinidad.
Junior Jeb Savage led Mesa with a 78 to finish 23rd. Michael Reeve shot 80, Calan Hoppe 82, Cody Miller 83 and Brandon Bingaman 88.
The 23rd-ranked University of Colorado-Colorado Springs won the team title with 296 led by Chris Shoop, who tied for first with 70. Colorado Mines took second with 303, led by Jim Knous, who tied Shoop for first.
Western New Mexico took third with 305, Regis was fourth with 306 and Adams State was fifth with 307.
