• Mesa rolls past Wayne State
Four players scored to lead the Mesa State College women’s soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Wayne State (Neb.) College on Friday in Kearney, Neb.
The Mavericks (2-0-0) have scored seven goals from six players in two games.
Megan Swan gave Mesa a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute, then junior forward Dany Ramirez scored her second goal of the season in the 42nd minute for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Natali Koen and Rachelle Ormond scored in the second half before Wayne State (0-2-0) broke up the shutout with a goal in the 84th minute.
Mesa took 18 shots and limited the Wildcats to four.
Mesa State is off until Sept. 4 when the Mavs play Cal State-San Bernardino in
• Mavericks split in Mines tourney
Mesa State picked up its first win of the volleybal season Friday, sweeping Minnesota State-Moorhead 30-28, 25-15, 25-16 in the second day of the Colorado School of Mines Oredigger Classic.
The Mavericks, though, lost 25-18, 25-17, 29-27 later in the day to Saint Leo (Fla.) University.
Bria Lovato had 23 kills in the two matches, Tess Andrews 22 and Antoinette McCormick 17.
The Mavericks (1-2) wrap up play at 11 this morning against 11th-ranked Washburn (Kan.) University.
