• Gunnison advances in playoffs

Gunnison was the only Western Slope baseball team to advance out of the district playoffs Saturday, claiming the Class 3A District 2 championship 5-2 over Hotchkiss.
The Cowboys (16-5) reached the eight-team, double-elimination state tournament starting Friday. Hotchkiss defeated Monte Vista 8-5 in the semifinals.
Cedaredge knocked off Bayfield 8-6 in the semifinals of the Class 3A District 5 tournament but then lost to

• No. 2 seeded Holy Family 11-4 in the championship game.
In the District 3 tournament, Olathe lost 11-1 to Florence in the semifinals. Aspen upset sixth-seeded Lutheran 4-2 in the District 8 opener but lost 17-7 to Valley in the district title game.

• In Class 4A, Montrose defeated Fort Lupton 13-3 in the District 1 tournament, but lost to top-seeded Broomfield 13-0 in the championship.

• Glenwood Springs was knocked out of the District 7 tournament 16-6 by Wheat Ridge.

• Delta, seeded sixth overall, was upset 8-7 by D’Evelyn in District 8, which then lost to Roosevelt 11-1 in the title game.

• Southwestern League champion Durango (13-7) lost 5-4 to ThunderRidge in the Class 5A District 5 semifinals.
