It was a dominant ground game that helped Olathe win the Class 2A high school football state championship last season.
In the 2009 season opener Friday night, Olathe picked up right where it left off, running all over Eagle Valley 41-0.
Pablo Pyan rushed for four touchdowns, including runs of 22 and 26 yards. Dylan Markley added a touchdown run 40 yards.
“Our offense had a pretty good stride early on,” Olathe coach Ryan Corn said. “The O-line got off the ball and we played mistake-free ball.”
Hayden prevailed over Coal Ridge 13-7. The Tigers scored twice in the second quarter, beginning with quarterback Greg Medvesk, who ran it in from 1 yard out. Medvest connected with Ben Fulton for a 35-yard touchdown reception.
Montrose rolled for the second straight week on the road, defeating Piedra Vista 31-6. Durango made it two straight, defeating Green Mountain 37-6.
In the Class 3A Western Slope League, Rifle opened the Ryan Sulkowski era with a 13-2 loss to Silver Creek, Delta defeated Gunnison 34-14, Moffat County downed Berthoud 20-14 and Conifer handed defending Class 3A state champion Glenwood Springs its second straight loss, 35-25.
In Class 2A, Cedaredge traveled to Paonia and defeated the Eagles 10-6. Hotchkiss won big over Roaring Fork 46-6 and Meeker blanked Basalt 36-0.
