Prep Swimming

• Griffins win, eye conference meet

The District 51 Griffins finished their dual meet season Friday with a 227-51 win over Moffat County. There were no additional state qualifying times for the Griffins, who took on a team with only five eligible swimmers.
“I thought our underclassmen carried the load today,” coach Dale Leonhart said.
Freshman Nate Sellers posted a personal best in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 11 seconds, and Heath McElroy posted a time of 1:09 in the 100 freestyle.
The Griffins went undefeated in duals for the second straight year.
“It was a good tuneup for the conference meet,” Leonhart said.

Prep Tennis

• Steamboat Springs wins team title

Steamboat Springs took home the Class 4A Region 8 team title by finishing with 83 points.
The Sailors were propelled to the championship by winning five individual championships. Claire Parsons led the way by defeating Beri Dwyer of Vail 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles final.
Montrose’s May May Vickers won the No. 1 singles championship by defeating Shannen McNamera of Vail 6-2, 6-3.
Vail took second place with 40 points.
