Tigers fall to Ralston in playoffs
• A 10-run second inning was too much for the Grand Junction High School baseball team to overcome on Sunday.
The Tigers, trailing 4-2 after the first inning, gave up 10 runs to Ralston Valley in the top of the second and couldn’t recover as the Mustangs ended Grand Junction’s season with a 15-5, five-inning victory in the first round of the Class 5A district playoffs.
The game was postponed a day after fog and rain canceled Saturday’s games at Air Academy High School. The teams had to get special permission from the Colorado High School Activities Association to play the game on Sunday, which is usually a no-contact day for teams and coaches in the state.
The Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the first but Ralston Valley sealed its victory with the 10-run second inning.
It was Derrick Bleeker’s day in Pueblo as the Skyline senior threw a one-hitter, helping the Falcons to an 8-0 victory over Palisade in their Class 4A first-round district game at Runyon Field.
Bleeker hit a home run in the sixth for good measure.
High School Soccer
• Central got the 16th and final home berth in the first round of the 32-team Class 5A state playoff bracket as the state soccer pairings were announced on Sunday.
The Warriors (11-1-2), who won the Southwestern League, play host to No. 17 Green Mountain. First-round games are Tuesday or Wednesday.
Durango, which was second in the SWL, got the 27th seed and travels to Colorado Springs to play Pine Creek in the first round.
Palisade got the Western Slope League’s last playoff berth.
