Huskies, ’Dogs dominate cross-country

Cross-country Running

• Battle Mountain and Moffat County qualified both their boys and girls teams for next week’s Class 4A state cross country championships at Saturday’s Region 5 meet at Confluence Park in Delta.
Gunnison and Pagosa Springs qualified boys and girls teams in the 3A Region 1 meet.
Battle Mountain had top-three finishes from Connor Wallace and David Shearon in the 4A boys race. Wallace won with a time of 16 minutes, 25.49 seconds.
Moffat County went 1-2 in the girls race with Alicia Nelson taking the individual title in 18:15.59, more than 16 seconds ahead of Maddy Jourgensen.
Buena Vista’s Joseph DeMoor clocked the day’s fastest time, 15:33.43 to win the 3A boys race.
Basalt’s Chiara Del Piccollo was the 3A girls champion, winning in 19:06.17. She finished 26 seconds ahead of Brandi Krieg of Grand Valley.
Ouray won the 2A boys regional title and Erin Kelly and Maddison Garcia finished 1-2 in the girls race to help Crested Butte win the team title.

VOLLEYBALL

• Palisade took the first two games, but Steamboat Springs rallied for a 16-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-13 victory.
Morgan Reynolds had 16 kills and 19 digs for the Bulldogs (11-8, 9-5 Western Slope League). Kendra Collette had 22 digs and three blocks.
Palisade finished third in the WSL behind Eagle Valley and Battle Mountain.

FOOTBALL

• Plateau Valley scored 31 points in the second quarter in a 55-18 victory over Faith Baptist.
Dalton Schuman threw for five TDs and ran for another.
Norwood defeated Soroco 64-42.
