• Wildcats fall to Rampart

The Fruita Monument High School soccer team dropped the finale of its weekend Colorado Springs road trip, losing to Rampart on Saturday 2-1.

Fruita Monument (2-5-2) got its lone goal from Rommel McClaney, with an assist from Tyler Brickle.

Trevor Stocking had six saves in goal for the Wildcats.

Palisade lost at Steamboat Springs 4-0.

“We played well against Steamboat,” Bulldogs coach Drake Jandreau said of competing against one of the Class 4A Western Slope League’s perennial contenders.

The loss, coming on the heels of a 4-0 defeat at Moffat County on Friday, was the eighth in a row for Palisade (2-8, 0-7 WSL).

Grand Junction’s scheduled nonleague game at Rifle was postponed.


Central won the Delta County Invitational with 53 points.

Montrose finished second with 51 points. Hotchkiss was third with 37 points.

Isaac Brown led the way for the Warriors, defeating Montrose’s Robert Herr in the No. 1 singles final 6-4, 6-1. Tom Morrison won at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1 over Tyler Betz of Montrose.

The Warriors performed well in the doubles matches, winning three out of four. The No. 1 team of James D’Anabelle and Austin Krebill defeated Pete Thomas and Wein Nunez of Montrose 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.

At No. 2, Matt Champlin and Dave McFall of Central defeated Jose Nunez and Mitch Reagen of Montrose 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The No. 4 team of Caleb Brown and Jared Emmert also won.

The Warriors play Fruita Monument on Tuesday.


Grand Junction swept two games from Prairie View on Saturday in a doubleheader rescheduled from the previous week.

The Tigers (10-4) defeated the ThunderHawks 10-0 and 13-8 in Henderson.

The victories improved Grand Junction’s nonleague record to 9-1.

Cross Country

In its first action in more than a week, the Palisade cross country team performed well at the Moffat County Invitational.

Dustin Martin led the boys team, finishing 12th with a time of 18 minutes, 58 seconds. Christian Miranda-Soto was 19th in 20:12.

The girls were led by Olevia Shafer, who finished 13th in 24:18.

Palisade will run in Saturday’s Anna Banana Invitational at Connected Lakes State Park.


Colton Husky scored four touchdowns as Dove Creek (4-0, 2-0 Class A-8 Western Division/Western Conference) defeated Plateau Valley 43-20 in Collbran.

DJ Schuman scored two touchdowns and had seven receptions for 130 yards for the Cowboys (2-2, 0-2).

Soroco scored 32 points in the second quarter to defeat Nucla 57-20.

West Grand remained undefeated in nonconference play as the Mustangs downed Lake County 40-19.

Hayden (3-1) defeated Dolores 48-14 and Meeker (2-2) shut out Mancos 48-0.
